Gerald R. Eubanks, my father, started gunsmithing in the early 1960's, and we worked side by side for 45 years. My father took a night course at a San Bernardino college, and then opened his first shop in his garage, doing work for local gun shops in Redlands, California. He decided that he wanted to build gun stocks, so he served a 2 year apprenticeship under J.L. Dockwiller. I started in the shop with my dad when I was 7 or 8 years old and in the early 1990's relocated to Western Idaho where we have been since. Gerald Eubanks still builds stocks today, and can do any and all aspects of the high quality work that is put out of our shop.
My name is Roger Eubanks. I owe all that I know to my father. He has taught me more than either of us will ever know. In the 1980's, we decided we would like to install ventilated ribs on shotguns. After a couple of years of trial and error and a lot of fixture building we decided on the system we use today in our rib installation. I work here with my wife and 3 children, and all the work that we do is custom. In our shop, we specialize in ribs and shotgun barrel work. They will take priority over all other work. Throughout the years of my career, I have had the privilege of working with many greats in the gun world. Recently I was honored with a visit from a long-time partner and master engraver Angelo Bee and his family. After working together for so long, it was well overdue seeing him in person. Discussing our work face-to-face was was an unbelievable experience that I won't soon forget, and I value his expertise each and every day. |
